Obituary for Richard H. Schutjer

Richard H. Schutjer
Hazel Green, Wisconsin

Richard H. "Dick" Schutjer, 77, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, died Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Cuba City.

He was born on September 5, 1939, in Britt, Iowa, the son of Henry and Ella (Jacobson) Schutjer. He married Judith A. Paquette on September 17, 1966, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City.

Richard graduated as a Civil Engineer in 1961 from Iowa State University. The early days of computers sparked his interest, and he branched out into the computer system world by working for IBM. This led him to eventually taking a job at DB&T for 20 years, where he was hired as their Vice President of Computer Operations.

Dick had a great sense of humor, was an avid gardener, bee keeper, woodworker, and hobby farmer. He embodied a "can do" approach to life and was always willing to lend a helping hand. What's more, he took great pride in being a Vikings fan in the land of Packers fans.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; two daughters, Christine Schutjer, of Chicago, Illinois, and Cynthia (Jim) Norman, of Dubuque; a son, Steven R. (Sharon) Schutjer, of Waterloo, Iowa; a brother, Jim Schutjer, of Apple Valley, Minnesota; three grandchildren, James, William and Dylan Norman; and also nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beverly (Paul) Wirtz.

A Richard H. Schutjer Memorial Fund has been established.
