Ava Powers (Harris)
Ava June Harris Powers, 90, of Platteville, Wisconsin, formerly of Benton, Wisconsin, died Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Gray's Nursing Home in Platteville. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Benton with Rev. Bill Vasey officiating. Burial will be in the Primitive Methodist Cemetery in Benton. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Thursday before the service at the funeral home in Benton.
Ava was born on June 24, 1927, in Benton, Wisconsin, the daughter of Reginald H. and Laura (Scott) Harris. She was a long time member of the Benton United Methodist Church and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Ava was interested in poetry, she was self taught in music, and loved being a mother and grandmother. She had strong family values that were handed down, and she had life-long friendships. She was hard-working and her faith was very important to her.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura (Paul) Hartman, of Potosi, Helene (Patrick) Smythe-Eagle, of Monona, WI, and Madeline (Marvin) Flogel, of Platteville; her sons, Timothy (Kristine) Smythe, of Potosi, Joseph (Joyce) Smythe, of New Market, TN, and Andrew Smythe, of Platteville; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Powers in 1987; and a daughter, Ava Roselee in 1960.
