Bernice was born on February 29, 1936, in Tomah, Wisconsin, the daughter of James E. and Gertrude A. (Frederickson) Rowell. She married Leo R. Stratton Jr. on September 10, 1955, at St. Mary’s Church in Tomah. Together they owned and operated Stratton Buses from 1969 until 1993.

Bernice was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed entertaining and working with people at the meal site. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, crocheting and quilting. Each of her 33 grandchildren received a quilt she made for them. Bernice loved traveling and joy rides in her convertible. There was always time for her to stop at any garage sale she passed. Her birthday was a special time. As a leap year baby she celebrated for a month in the years of her birthday.

Survivors include her daughters, Kim (Andy) Loeffelholz, Potosi, Jeannie (Curt) Seng, Fennimore and Joanne (Rick) Jones, Knoxville, TN; her sons, Jim (Theresa) Stratton, Knoxville, TN, Steve (Jana) Stratton, Clearwater Beach, FL, and Russ (Tammy) Stratton, Cuba City; a sister, Mary Lou Burrington, Eau Claire; a brother, Clarence Rowell, Eau Claire; 33 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 24 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; a daughter, Vickie; two brothers, Asa and Jesse Rowell; and nine brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In lieu of plants and flowers a Bernice G. Stratton Memorial Fund has been established.

Msgr Gilles announced at Mass this morning that Bernice's funeral would be in St. Mary on Friday. Both my wife Mary and I were sad to hear that Bernice had passed away. She will be in our prayers. I have fond memories of Bernice and Leo and all of their family from the time we worked together in Potosi. A great family and a treasured memory of all of you came to us this morning. God bless all of you. You had a special Mom.

I’m sorry to hear about Bernice’s death. She was a wonderful lady and I always enjoyed our chats when she would come in the office at Potosi schools when I worked there. She was always so happy and made me smile. She raised s great family and I hope all your wonderful memories help you through this difficult time. RIP sweet lady.
